It all depends on the shape of your pool, the landscaping around your pool and your preference for materials.

I'd highly suggest you talk to a landscape architect, a concrete contractor, or a pool construction company. All can be found by letting your fingers do the walking (the yellow pages).

You can overfeed any plant with any fertilizer if you give the plants too much....
As far as I know, lime makes the ground more acidic, so give it to plants that like higher acidity

yes there is such a thing as too much fertilizer...it can kill the plants.
The lime would be to counter act the acidic soil.

You can overfertilize anything. For houseplants I would give a small amount of miracle grow weekly (mixed per directions) - for outdoor plants in a broader landscape, feed it more generously weekly or every other week. If you read the instructions on the miracle grow, it will give you some idea as to the application amounts. I have some plants that are grown in closer proximity and I usually fertilize them all together.

In addition to the above mentioned uses for lime - it also deters snakes...

It can be done but it would be best if the pool had some way of draining naturally since your deck covering likely will not be waterproof. Have a contractor look at it, ask your city building department to see if they have any input. Your best bet is to get a civil engineer to recommend construction details, span, footings and the like to do it properly.

The next owner will likely need to make repairs to convert it back to a pool.

A word of caution, an empty pool is lighter than the ground it sits in and can likely move and shift when the earth shakes and during a wet winter can actually float out of the ground. None of this hurts the pool but it does destroy the plumbing and the pool would have to be demoed because you could not get it back into its hole very well!

You're welcome!!

I would worry that water would still get in when it rains and the deck isn't sealed tight over it. Then you will have be pumping it out or you will have stagnat water lying in it.

Be sure leaves, rats, & snakes can't enter to make a home
in the void.
Also would need a sump pump to take care of water accumulation. Don't want a mosquito breeding area.
And yes it could float up while sitting empty.
Another option would be a solid winter cover, looks like a trampoline.
Example at

Hi:
What type of landscaping are you looking for? Are you looking to landscape your entire property or maybe your front and backyard. There are so many different designs and ideas out today. Think about what type of trees, shrubs, or flowers you would like to plant? Do you want any outdoor features such as fountains, bird baths, feeders, decorative walkways, etc... Do you have any problem areas such as a slope or drainage issues. These are some of the basic questions to ask yourself before you beging. A great method to go by is to plan - prep - and plant. Take a look at my website for ideas, tips and designs on landscaping your yard. Also check out the plan - prep and plant page as it may help you see the over all picture. I hope this has helped some and if you have any questions please feel fee to contact me.
