Outdoor Pergola Plans
Outdoor pergolas look good in a garden, and form an attractive and functional use as well. They are pleasing to the eye. My wife was skimming through numerous garden magazines this summer, trying to get some ideas of how she wanted our garden to look. We have a large garden, so she thought an outdoor pergola would look good somewhere in the garden, but she was not quite sure where. I agreed, and suggested we look for a set of outdoor pergola plans.
I did not realize there are so many different designs of pergolas, and it would take a brochure to describe them all. Given there was so much choice, I suggested that we phone the local garden centre and ask for someone to come to see us and give us some ideas about what type of pergola would look best in our garden. We did not want anything with lots of curves, nor anything too big. A smaller size would not only be cheaper to buy, but would look better for us.
The garden designer who came suggested we could locate the pergola close to the house and as it would be over the patio, we need only to walk out of the house and we would be under it. We thought that was a good idea. Or, we he suggested we could situate the pergola in the middle of the lawn area, and have it as a place to relax under. Either way, the idea was to cover the wooden structure in foliage, and both situations would good to us.
Before starting this project I thought it better to try and foresee any problems we might encounter, on paper, rather than come across them when we were building. It is also less costly doing it this way as you are not yet using materials and paying workmen for their time.
I did not know enough to tackle a job like this without expert help. I did not want to end up with a sub standard construction which could blow down in a gust of wind. That would be a nightmare. If that happened I would have wasted my time and money.
I was glad I chose to have a professional set of outdoor pergola plans, and the result for us was a well built and solid pergola, which I am sure will last for many years to come.
